We packed up and went to our ultrasound on Tuesday and when we arrived home on Wednesday we came home to a flooded basement . Might not be so strange for this time of year and everything that has been going on . But we were high and dry but a mistake made by a contractor that was left in our house on Tuesday our pump got unplugged . We got flooded I had my moments and cried the UGLY cry . Then talking to my mom and dad telling them everything that happened . Dad said it just STUFF . I repeated that line over and over as we saw all the damaged and found more stuff that had been damaged that we forgot was down there. I repeat that line to my kids every time they asked for some of there toys that we cannot have access too because the way our system works down stairs for pump out and such all runs through each other so that means our dirty water has diluted through everything and with me preggos and Izzy allergies & asthma that means everything that they consider safe needs a high end cleaning but we already been advised that it would not be much . ITS JUST STUFF !!So all my girls stuff is gone . Must admit they are great . Addy says Santa will bring her her fave stuff right mom . I have been a mama that has a rule toys belong in the toy room not upstairs so we have barbies to play with and a few books. Some homemade play dough and crayons and the girls have been real troopers . I have not had access to our home computer as its also down stairs not sure if its survived . My craft room UGH .Its just STUFF !!! I have lost a few very important pictures to us . But all this makes me realize how important it is to store things properly . I could always be worse we could of lost our whole home to a fire or much bigger flood or anything else for that matter . So I will be taking some time to breath and getting the fine details figured out . Will keep you updated real soon . Our main priority is to get everything cleaned to a safe matter for us and to bring a new baby home too . We have had amazing experience with our insurance agent , the cleaning crew that has been traveling from Winnipeg to help out the pregnant lady . We have had great family and neighbours that helped out the first night too . So just to make our house a home again .
Its just STUFF !!! When you started thinking like that it changes everything about the way you think . Maybe has changed us for the better & for the long run .
I will report back soon !
And maybe I will have some access to beable to post some pictures.
oh, Lachalle, I'm so sorry to hear that you've had stuff damaged by water. I know that it's only "stuff" but stuff with memories is difficult to lose. I have a craft room full of stuff that I haven't been able to get to for a very, very long time as it is in dire need of organizing and I would be sad if it was ruined before I got to that job. It's good that there's a cleaning crew to help the pregnant mama! Stay safe from the germs and allergens!

Thanks Lia !
ReplyDeleteI have been so lucky to have this cleaning crew here they have been so great and saving me so much time out of the damp basement also doing all teh lifting too as I am now on light duty !! I been looking at the bright side of things . I guess I have come up with . We were not planning on redoing the basement for 5 years I guess we will do it now , although timing is awful we will have a great new clean area to spend time together as wee did spend most of our time down there.

Hi Lachalle,
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of you and your family as you work through this newest (unplanned) adventure. I love how you are putting a positive spin on it! It is difficult to do, especially with the added hormones of pregnancy! I wish I lived closer so I could zip on over and help you out! I will send many "good, calm, keep everything moving forward thoughts your way this week!
Take care,
Dee-Ann
ps - I think this situation may be a little big for the accept, label and toss it but if I lived closer I would come over with "crappy wet situation, crappy flooding" written on a big piece of paper that you could rip up and then we can burn!
